The Trouble with Contractors
First of all, I am a home improvements contractor. So don't expect me to
slaughter these guys too badly. They're not all an ornery, sneaky bunch.
You just have to know how to handle yourself and them. Communication and
explicit attention to detail will often smooth over or avoid potential
confrontations & misunderstandings that can become costly to both
the homeowner and the contractor.
When choosing a contractor, for instance, be sure you feel confident in
his abilities. If you're still uncertain, checking his credentials with
consumer affairs also would be beneficial. Be sure he will be able to
interpret your wishes to what your visions of the improvement are to be
like. On a large project you may want to call in the help of an
architect or designer. Yes!! You want all the appropriate permits,
insurances, and inspections. It won't cost you much more, and you will
be confident your job is done right.
